Kino is an indian man that has a wife, a brother, a sister in law, and one son. He lives in the town of La Paz, Mexico in a village. He dives for pearls as the source of income for his family. As you can see he was the one that found the Pearl of the World deep in the ocean. Kino was a very determined man because even though he got attacked by different people he still wouldn't give up on selling the Pearl. He also has a canoe that was passed down from generation to generation. He is a very imaginative person I should say since he has lots of dreams or hopes when he looks deep inside the Pearl like Coyotitio going to school. Although he has a short temper and gets mad easily he is still a good man.
Juana was the wife of Kino and mother of Coyotito. She is a very strong woman and believes in her husband. She is the wise one in the family since she knows how to take care, cook, and make decisions. She helps her husband in everything and is there every step of the way in life. Juana knows what is good and what is bad but Kino is sometimes so stubborn that he doesn't listen to his wife's opinion but even beats her. Juana is a great woman in the story that is brave and strong will as her husband. She is a very simple person that likes to live a simple life.
Coyotito is the first son of Kino and Juana. He is the first major event in the story because he is stung by the scorpion. Coyotito is the innocent one in the story because he is just a baby and he doesn't know anything or what is going on. He is also the unlucky one because he is killed at the end of the story since the trackers thought he was a coyote. Kino and Juana mourned over him so they threw away the Pearl since it had cost a life of an innocent child.
Juan Tomas is the brother of Kino. He is not a main character but he is still kind of an important character in the story. Juan Tomas is the oldest brother meaning he is bigger than Kino. He loves his family especially Kino because he needs guidance in life. Juan Tomas is a very nice brother and provides the neccessary materials for the journey to the capital. Also he provides Kino's family with shelter until the night time to escape. So Juan Tomas is good caring and loving big brother.
Apolonia is the sister in law of Kino. She is rarely in the story but there is one part where she pretends to mourn for Kino and his family to make the villagers believe that Kino's family is dead. Overall she is also a very good sister in law that helps support the family throughout hard times.
The doctor was also a minor character that was just plain fat and very cruel to the indian/mexican people which would get him in trouble during the present day. He lived in the town and once lived in Paris so he only wanted to help all the rich people instead of the poor people like Kino's family. He is so dum in personality and physically. I do agree with Kino that he is a very sinister villian like character that only does things for the money which shows the expression of the greed for riches.
The Pearl Buyer's were people that worked for one big pearl buyer. They planned out their prices together so they can all cheat the villagers buy selling the pearls for a cheaper value than it ought to be. The Pearl Buyer's also have the greed for riches and cheated Kino so it made him very angry. You see that is why the Pearl Buyer's can make a big profit for themselves. They lie and cheat just to get the lowest price from you.
The Trackers are evil men sent out by the Pearl Buyer's (I think) to hunt down Kino's family and steal the pearl. They are very ruthless and don't care for anyones safety except for themselves. They are the ones that killed Coyotito. Kino killed them all in the end and took the rifle for his prize but was very sad when he discovered that his son had died.
